Fincantieri wins largest superyacht order of 2009.

By IBI Magazine/David Robinson. The largest superyacht new-build contract has been placed late in the year with Fincantieri Yachts, a division of the Italian shipbuilding group. The 140m (459ft) long, seven-deck motoryacht, designated Hull #6218, is based on a “new outstanding design” from Espen Oeino.

Fincantieri says it has developed the design to full owner satisfaction. It will be built to SOLAS regulations. Fincantieri says it will be “remarkable in terms of complexity, technological content, high-standard of décor and top-echelon craftsmanship.”

Particular attention will be given to environmentally friendly solutions. The yacht will include internal seawater dockage for a 14m (46ft) tender and six pools up to 8m (26ft) in length. The interiors will be designed by style icons Alberto Pinto and Laura Sessa.

“Any information about the owner and any further information about the yacht, including the yacht profile, will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” says Fincantieri. “The yacht, when delivered, will be undoubtedly one of the most, if not the most, technically advanced yachts in the world.”

The order was placed through Camper & Nicholsons International, the brokerage subsidiary of the Rodriguez Group. Toby Walker, director of sales, told IBI: “I cannot give any details of the yacht but we are naturally very pleased to be associated with this order.”
